اے کثرت فہم بے شمار اندیشہ

Ay kasrat-e-fehm be-shumaar andeesha

ہے اصل خرد سے شرمسار اندیشہ

Hai asal-e-khirad se sharmsaar andeesha

O abundance of understanding, countless anxieties
Apprehension is ashamed by the essence of intellect

یک قطرۂ خون و دعوت صد نشتر

Yak qatra-e-khoon o daawat-e-sad nishtar

یک وہم و عبادت ہزار اندیشہ

Yak wahm o ibaadat hazaar andeesha

One drop of blood and an invitation to a hundred lancets
One delusion and worship, a thousand apprehensions

Context

This Urdu couplet, rich in philosophical introspection, explores the intricate relationship between intellect (خرد), understanding (فہم), and anxiety (اندیشہ). It delves into the human condition where profound understanding can be overshadowed by countless worries, and a single illusion or vulnerability (symbolized by a drop of blood or a mere illusion) can invite immense suffering or lead to a multitude of anxieties, reflecting a deep engagement with existential themes common in classical Urdu poetic tradition.
