ہوں میں بھی تماشائی نیرنگ تمنا

hoon main bhi tamashai-e nairang-e tamanna

مطلب نہیں کچھ اس سے کہ مطلب ہی بر آوے

matlab nahin kuch is se ke matlab hi bar aave

I too am a spectator of the spectacle of desire.
It doesn't matter if the desire is fulfilled.

Context

This couplet reflects a profound philosophical stance common in classical Urdu poetry, particularly Sufi-influenced ghazals. The speaker declares themselves a mere spectator to the 'spectacle of desire,' implying a detachment from its outcomes. The second line reinforces this by stating that the fulfillment of the desire is not the primary concern. This theme often suggests a focus on the journey, the experience of yearning itself, or an acceptance of divine will over personal aspirations.
