POEM · PERMANENT EDITION
Mir Jaan Naveedu قرار نہیں Khushboo nariyal ki hai, aur dil ko qarar nahin ●sher 1 of 1

خوشبو ناریل کی ہے، اور دل کو قرار نہیں

Khushboo nariyal ki hai, aur dil ko qarar nahin

کڑھی چاول کی خاطر ہم سے اب انتظار نہیں

Kadhi chawal ki khatir humse ab intezar nahin

The fragrance is of coconut, and my heart finds no peace.
For Kadhi-Chawal, we can no longer wait.

Context

This couplet playfully juxtaposes deep emotional states, like a restless heart and unbearable anticipation, with specific, everyday sensory experiences: the fragrance of coconut and the craving for Kadhi-chawal. It deviates from traditional Urdu poetry's often abstract or romantic themes, instead employing a modern, light-hearted tone to express the intensity of simple, relatable desires, perhaps even satirizing the grand declarations of classical verse by applying them to mundane pleasures.
