لو ہم مریض عشق کے بیمار دار ہیں

Lo hum mareez-e-ishq ke beemar-daar hain

اچھا اگر نہ ہو تو مسیحا کا کیا علاج

Achha agar na ho to Maseeha ka kya ilaaj

Behold, we are the caretakers of love's patient.
If he doesn't recover, what cure is there for the healer?

Context

This Urdu couplet delves into the profound and often incurable nature of love, a prevalent theme in classical ghazal poetry. It uses the metaphor of a 'patient of love' and a 'healer' (Maseeha, often referring to Jesus, known for miraculous cures in Islamic tradition) to suggest that the afflictions of the heart are beyond conventional medical remedies. The verse emphasizes the overwhelming power of love, implying that its intensity renders even the most skilled physicians powerless, highlighting love's spiritual rather than physical dimension.
