Muhammad Iqbal ستارے کاپیغام Mujhe darā nahīn saktī fizā kī tārīkī ●sher 1 of 2

مجھے ڈرا نہیں سکتی فضا کی تاریکی

Mujhe darā nahīn saktī fizā kī tārīkī

مِری سرشت میں ہے پاکی و دُرخشانی

Mirī sarisht men hai pākī o durakhshānī

The darkness of the surroundings cannot frighten me.
Purity and brilliance are in my very nature.

تُو اے مسافرِ شب! خود چراغ بن اپنا

Tū ai musāfir-e-shab! Khud chirāgh ban apnā

کر اپنی رات کو داغِ جگر سے نُورانی

Kar apnī raat ko dāgh-e-jigar se nūrānī

O traveler of the night, become your own lamp.
Illuminate your night with the scar of your heart.

Context

This Urdu poem encapsulates classical South Asian poetic themes of inner strength, self-reliance, and resilience. It urges the individual to confront life's darkness by discovering and igniting an inner light. The powerful metaphor of "daagh-e-jigar" (the mark or wound of the heart/liver) implies that even profound personal pains and experiences can be transformed into a source of wisdom and illumination, guiding one through life's challenges and emphasizing the inherent radiance of the human spirit.
