پرپیچ بہت ہے شکن زلف سیاہ

Par-pech bahut hai shikan zulf-e-siyah

وارفتہ نہ رہ اس کا دلا بے گہ و گاہ

Wa-rafta na reh is ka, dila, be-gah o gah

The curl of the black tresses is very intricate.
O heart, do not remain madly enamored of it unwisely.

دیوانگی کرنے کی جگہ بھی ٹک دیکھ

Dewangi karne ki jagah bhi tak dekh

جا ملتی ہے یہ کوچۂ زنجیر میں راہ

Ja milti hai yeh koocha-e-zanjeer mein raah

Also, just observe the place for madness.
This path leads to the lane of chains.

Context

This Urdu couplet draws on classical ghazal traditions where the beloved's intricate black tresses are a powerful symbol of beauty, often depicted as a snare for the lover's heart. It warns against unbridled passion, cautioning the heart (dila) that such an obsessive path, though alluring, ultimately leads to the 'lane of chains' (kochah-e zanjeer), a powerful metaphor for madness or social confinement resulting from overwhelming love.
